Cane / Rattan Facts
Rattan is an exceptionally environmentally sound product for many reasons:
- Cane / Rattan is a large climbing vine that wraps itself around existing tree life. Because of this, it activly discourages deforrestation, asfarmers will strip away the rattan, leaving the trree unharmed.
- Cane / Rattan grows in area's that will not support most other commercial crops, such as tropical forrests that remain under flood waters for extended period.
- The harvesting of rattan is labour intensive and requires only basic tools and machinery. As such it provides an income for some of the poorest communities in these areas.

Haddon House Furniture Supports Animal Welfare Open Day
St Francis Animal Welfare is a registered charity (263172), established in 1953 and based at Sunnyside Cottage, Mortimer's Lane in Fair Oak, near Southampton. They provide shelter and care for many animals that are up for adoption, including cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters and gerbils.
On June 3rd 2007 St Francis Animal Welfare are holding a charity open day to promote their work, raise much needed funds to help them continue their work, and have a great day! They will also be officially opening their new introduction room - a space where families can meet the animals away from the hustle and bustle of the other animals and families, before potentially giving them a permanent home. Haddon House Furniture were delighted to donate a suite of furniture from the Fiji range to furnish this new room and offer their best wishes for the open day:
